Saturday 10th May  -  Press Release

We took over the main square in Callander on 10th May for 'In the Pink' - a fun event aimed at connecting women who live or work across the Trossachs and surrounding villages.  Everyone had a great time visiting the various stalls, including mini hand massages, facepainting, competitions and a grand raffle, and £300 was raised for local charity The Lilias Graham Trust.

Stirling Provost Fergus Wood paid a visit to the event and enthusiastically joined in, even signing himself up as an honorary member of Women in the Trossachs (which is happy to be an equal opportunities organisation!).  Women in the Trossachs greatly appreciate all the people and organisations who helped make the day such a success, by lending them equipment and donating either prizes or their own time to help at the event.  A full list of all the sponsors who contributed is shown below.

A particular mention is due to Callander Pipe Band members who gave a rousing performance to kick off the day's proceedings, and Jasmine Beauty who had a beautician on hand all day to provide relaxing mini hand massages which were greatly enjoyed by all - even Provost Wood.   Also to Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park staff including rangers who manned an interesting display with craft activities and even brought along a tame owl.  And volunteers from Callander Youth Project who did a great job all day facepainting.

Cath Morrison, Chief Executive of the Lilias Graham Trust was delighted with the donation and said "Receiving this donation means a lot to our service users and staff - it is much appreciated.  We will be purchasing a swing seat for our playroom."  The Lilias Graham trust assists families to improve relationships and helps develop parenting skills at its residential centre near Thornhill. See website www.braendam.org.uk for more information.

Women in the Trossachs meets regularly, connecting women of all ages living or working in the area, and helping them to make social, community or business contacts.  It also runs a varied programme of monthly meetings covering a range of topics such as fitness, crafts, the local environment and personal development.  Meetings are a great opportunity to meet other women from the local area.   Members also work on projects to support other women and their own communities, and organise fundraising events like 'In the Pink'.  This year we were fortunate to be funded by the Women’s Fund for Scotland.

During the summer Women in the Trossachs has meetings in Aberfoyle, Callander, Thornhill and Brig o'Turk.  In June the Annual Dinner will be in Callander with a talk on ‘Plants that Kill, Cure and Comfort’ from Louise Bustard of Glasgow Botanical Gardens.  Followed in July by a visit to the David Marshall Lodge, Aberfoyle and a family barbeque in August near Thornhill.  We will also be doing more fundraising at various local village shows.   If you are interested in finding out more email This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it .  Transport assistance can usually be arranged to meetings.
